Alexander Ovechkin at the 2010 Winter Classic at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
NHL Washington chose to host the Winter Classic in 2015, according to The Canadian Press has learned.
Capitals and will host this annual event four years after facing the Penguins at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
The Capitals owner Ted Leonsis, must make the announcement at a rally of supporters of the team on Saturday.
It is not yet known which team will face the Capitals, but speculations want it to be the Philadelphia Flyers, who organized this game played out in 2012.
The NHL has not commented on the announcement that the Capitals will be Saturday.
The place where the game will be also remains a question mark. The Nationals Park seems the most logical site, but RFK Stadium and FedEx Field, located in Landover, Maryland, may represent options.
